Aligned Visual Identity
New website
Torch Trust is a charity that supports people living with sight loss through resources, community, and faith-based initiatives like Sight Loss Friendly Church. Our brief was to design and build a new digital home that would unify Torch’s activities under one accessible, intuitive platform — making it easier for clients and supporters to engage with the charity’s mission and services online.
Torch Trust is a Christian charity working together to enable people with sight loss to have fulfilling Christian lives. They do this through offering services and resources to peoplewith sight loss.
Torch’s existing website had grown organically over more than a decade, becoming difficult to navigate and increasingly inaccessible. With no major structural updates during that time, the site had become a maze; one that no longer reflected the clarity or care at the heart of Torch’s work. The challenge was to rebuild from the ground up: restructuring content, redefining user journeys, and ensuring that accessibility wasn’t an add-on, but a foundational principle. The scale of the project only became clear as we began to unpack the full depth of the existing content architecture.
This wasn’t a simple rebuild; it required deep collaboration. We brought in web developer Pete from Monkey Development early in the process to ensure a seamless integration with WordPress, the platform preferred by Torch.
We began with a discovery phase alongside Torch’s leadership team, working to align multiple stakeholder needs into a clear set of priorities. It quickly became apparent that the new site had to serve two distinct audiences: those experiencing sight loss, and those looking to support the cause. Defining this dual focus helped us establish a core goal; to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) while providing a warm, welcoming, and functional user experience for all.
Over the following months, we carefully deconstructed the old site, restructured the sitemap, and developed a new set of wireframes. We iterated extensively, testing layouts and hierarchies to find a balance between client services and supporter engagement. Once final mockups were approved, Pete led the development process; translating our designs into a fully responsive, standards-compliant WordPress build.
The new Torch Trust website is a modern, accessible platform that meets the needs of users living with sight loss while strengthening the organisation’s ability to connect with supporters. It brings together Torch’s services, resources, and sub-brands under one cohesive digital identity;with improved usability, clearer navigation, and full compliance with accessibility best practices. More than just a rebuild, the site represents a renewed commitment to clarity, inclusion, and digital care at every level.
